Every line in the archive reaches John, Perry and Patrick Long through one of their two parents. Their father brought the Long half of the family; their mother, the Perry half. Their marriage is where the two halves meet.

1951 or 1952 – 2020

Son of State Representative John Joseph Long and Clare Patricia Coogan. A Fall River attorney for more than forty years. Through him come the Fall River families and the lines behind them: five lines, every one charted down through him.

Mother · the Perry half

Carol Perry Long

Living

Daughter of Francis Swift Perry and Eleanor L. Wall. Through her come the Perry, Swift and Wall families, and behind them the Mayflower passengers and the Nantucket founders: fourteen lines, every one charted down through her.

Where the halves meet

They met at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the 1970s.

The Long half runs back from Fall River through the Long, Coogan, Manion and Sullivan families; the Perry half runs back from Fairhaven, New Bedford and Newton to Cape Cod, Nantucket and Plymouth. They join in one generation, in John Patrick Long and Carol Perry Long, and every descent chart on the site passes through one of them.
