What the Records Show

John Peckham, born about 1645, lived at Newport, Rhode Island. [2] He married Sarah; Wilbour gives her surname as Newport and the year as 1667, and their first child was born at Newport in September 1668. [1] [2]

A doubtful date

FamilySearch's tree gives the marriage as 19 June 1667 or 1668 at Little Compton, and his wife's birth at Little Compton in 1649. [3] Both are doubtful. English settlement at Little Compton (Sakonnet) began only in the 1670s, and Wilbour says of John: "It has been said that he lived in LC, but the records do not support this." [1] Austin records that in 1688 he bought thirty acres at Little Compton from his brother James, and that it was his son John who moved there. [2]
