What the Records Show

Richmond C. Winter was born at Fall River, Massachusetts, on 25 June 1839. [2] He married Elizabeth Arden at Fall River on 6 November 1861; she died in 1873. [4] In 1876 he married Susan D. (Pease) Eldredge, the record placed at Fairhaven. [5] In 1880 the Fall River directory lists him as an engineer on the "Quequechan" steamer, No. 1, living at 62 Walnut Street. [1]

He died at New Bedford on 17 February 1912: the death record gives his age as 72 years, 7 months and 23 days, which counts to that date. [3] The card kept with the family photographs says 17 January. [2] The FamilySearch tree records his burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River. [6]

Grandpa in Dartmouth St. living room.” Grandpa is Richmond C. Winter. Granni Winter is not Elizabeth Arden, who died in 1873; she is probably Susan D. (Pease) Eldredge Winter (m. Richmond C. Winter 1876, Fairhaven), his second wife, who shared the Swifts’ household at 191 Washington St in 1900. Likely New Bedford.
