Sources for the marriages
Herodias Long (c. 1623, died after 1674) was one of the earliest women to dissent publicly from the religious authority of Massachusetts Bay. She was whipped at Weymouth and at Boston in the 1650s for Quaker preaching, an incident recorded in the Puritan court records, and afterwards settled in Rhode Island among the dissenters gathered around Roger Williams and Anne Hutchinson, where liberty of conscience was protected by charter.
She is an ancestor of John, Perry and Patrick Long through the seventeenth-century Rhode Island settlement that anchors their maternal descent. Her line is set out on Herodias Long.
