What the Records Show

Catherine Louise Thornton was born at Newton, Massachusetts, on 27 June 1896, the daughter of Michael Thornton and Bridget McCoy. [1] Her father, born in Ireland, had come to the United States in 1872. [2] She grew up in Ward 6 of Newton and was still living there with her parents, unmarried, in 1920. [2] [3]

She married Herbert Miller Wall. By 1930 they lived in Newton with their daughters and her mother, Bridget Thornton, and they were in the same part of the city in 1940. [4] [5] She died on 1 August 1967, aged 71, at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a lifelong resident of Newton Centre; her funeral notice spells her name Katherine, and names her husband, Herbert M. Wall, and her daughter Eleanor among her survivors. [6]
