Deborah (Luce/Pokanoket)
c. 1663 – 1722
What the tradition claimed
Online family trees made Deborah, wife of Thomas Crowell and the proven mother of Seth Crowell, a daughter of Wamsutta and Weetamoo, called Deborah Luce or Deborah Pokanoket.
Where the chain breaks
No record names Deborah's parents, and her maiden name is unknown. The trees cite no sources, list Metacom (King Philip) as her brother though he was Wamsutta's brother, and give her a sibling called “Laughing Water,” a name from Longfellow's Hiawatha (1855). See The Deborah Crowell Question.
